Tony Evans Sr. is an American evangelical pastor who is also a speaker, author, and radio and television presenter who is extensively syndicated in the US. Evans was the head pastor of Dallas, Texas’s Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, which had over 9,500 members, from 1976 until 2024.

Anthony Jr., his son, is a modern-day Christian musician. He participated in season two of The Voice and has worked with Grammy Award-winning artist Kirk Franklin. Jonathan, Evans’ son, played football professionally in the National Football League. He was a fullback for the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Buffalo Bills. The Dallas Cowboys currently have Jonathan as their chaplain.

With ten members gathering at his house, Evans established the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, in 1976. Additionally, he established The Urban Alternative, a nationwide organization dedicated to transforming lives and reviving hope via the preaching and practice of God’s Word. Every day, more than 1,400 stations in the United States and more than 130 nations around the world broadcast the Urban Alternative radio show, The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans.

Evans was the chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL and the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA. He is a member of Dallas Theological Seminary’s Board of Incorporated Members and taught evangelism, homiletics, and black church studies there. Evans was listed by Baylor University as one of the Top 12 Preachers in the English-Speaking World. In order to prepare Christian leaders who are unable to attend a seminary, Evans established the Tony Evans Training Center in 2017 as an online learning platform that offers seminary-style courses.

Evans has the distinction of being the first African American to write and publish a complete Bible study and commentary. Oneness Embraced, The Kingdom Agenda, Kingdom Man, The Tony Evans Study Bible, and The Tony Evans Bible Commentary are just a few of the more than 100 works he has written. Evans resigned from his position as head pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in June 2024 because of an unspecified transgression he had committed many years prior.
