In September 2011, Buterin was approached by Mihai Alisie about launching a new print newspaper called Bitcoin Magazine, a role he would accept as the first co-founder and contribute to as a major writer.

Bitcoin Magazine, which began publishing a print edition in 2012, has been dubbed the “first serious publication dedicated to cryptocurrencies.” Buterin applied for a job at Ripple while working for Bitcoin Magazine and was accepted. However, their anticipated employment fell through because Ripple was unable to back Buterin’s U.S. visa. Furthermore, in 2016, he served on the editorial board of Ledger, a peer-reviewed scholarly publication that publishes full-length original research articles on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

Vitalik Buterin Ethereum

Buterin is the co-founder and inventor of Ethereum, which is characterized as a “decentralised mining network and software development platform rolled into one” that enables the creation of new cryptocurrencies and programs that share a single blockchain (a cryptographic transaction ledger).

Ethereum was first described in a white paper by Buterin in November 2013. Buterin had claimed that a scripting language was required for Bitcoin application development. When he couldn’t get consensus, he advocated creating a new platform with a more general scripting language.

In late 2013 and early 2014, the Ethereum white paper was distributed, and interest in the new technology rose. Buterin made a more public announcement about Ethereum on January 26 at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami. Buterin gave a 25-minute speech in which he described Ethereum as a general-purpose global computer working on a decentralized permissionless network, concluding with potential applications for Ethereum ranging from crop insurance to decentralized exchanges to DAOs.

Buterin is devoted to the Ethereum Project and is attempting to avoid being dubbed the “philosopher king” of the blockchain world. After his World of Warcraft character was nerfed by patch 3.1.0, he was inspired to invent decentralized money. His father claims he is attempting to devote his time to study in order to make the community more resilient.

Buterin met with President Vladimir Putin on June 2, 2017, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), as he recognized the economic and political significance of the Ethereum venture for his own Russia. Putin indicated that he “supported the idea of forging relationships with potential Russian partners.”
