In 1997, she began her career in journalism at the Seven Network in Brisbane, where she reported stories for Today Tonight and then Seven News. She started working for Prime Gold Coast News in June 2001 as a freelance television presenter and reporter. After that, she relocated to Brisbane and started working as a cadet news reporter and writer for the Seven Network.

Harris began working for the Nine Network in 2002, where he filled in as an Extra presenter, researcher, and reporter.She also started working as a correspondent for Today and National Nine News. She reported live from the scene of the November 2004 Cairns Tilt Train disaster as well as the 2005 Kingaroy burial of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.In 2005, she departed from Today to work as a reporter and stand-in host at Brisbane’s National Nine News. Harris relocated to Sydney in 2007 in order to work as a stand-in news presenter and reporter for Today.
