Rowland, an ABC News Breakfast presenter, began his career in 2010 with the debut of ABC News 24. The show relocated from ABC2 to ABC1 in 2011, featuring new parts such as “The Party Line” and focused on local and regional concerns in Australia. Rowland was a live correspondent in 2019 covering wildfires in New South Wales, interviewing firefighters and people.

While covering the 1996 federal election, Rowland met his future News Breakfast co-host Lisa Millar.
He formerly worked as a North America correspondent, covering events such as Barack Obama’s election, the 2007-2008 financial crisis, the Virginia Tech shooting, and David Hicks’ escape from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. Rowland previously served as Lateline’s finance correspondent and reported on business and economics for other ABC television and radio venues. He took over as co-host of News Breakfast in June 2010, replacing Joe O’Brien.
Rowland’s extended role as senior network presenter for ABC’s morning news breakfast section was announced in June 2019.
