Marc Stewart is an international correspondent working in CNN’s Beijing office who covers the network’s broadcast and digital platforms.

Education
As part of a combined curriculum at New York University’s Stern Business School and the journalism department, he holds a master’s degree in business and economic journalism. Additionally, Stewart graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in international relations.
Marc CNN Career
He has been instrumental in covering President Xi Jinping’s visits to China, as well as the ongoing political and economic discussions between the United States and Russia’s Vladimir Putin. In addition, he has reported on China’s shifting demographics, the effects of the economy on the country’s residents’ daily lives, and his exclusive access to the country’s space exploration program. He has also concentrated on climate change, extreme weather, and technology developments in the electric vehicle sector.
He previously worked for CNN out of its bureaus in Tokyo and Hong Kong, covering some of the major stories in the region, such as the G7 meeting in Hiroshima in 2023, the lifting of COVID restrictions in China, and the release of treated radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, where he had the rare opportunity to tour the facility.
Stewart has had one-on-one conversations with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the US ambassador to Japan, and the foreign minister of Japan. He also conducted a profile on Zhou Guanyu, the first driver from China to compete in Formula One, while he was racing in Austin, Texas.
In addition, Stewart co-hosts CNN’s Marketplace Asia. The monthly program examines regional business ideas and trends. CEOs and other top executives from numerous well-known businesses, including Samsung, Mitsubishi, NIO, Mazda, All Nippon Airways, and Suntory Holdings Limited, have been interviewed by Stewart.
Stewart has also worked for CNN This Morning, The Lead with Jake Tapper, and other domestic and international programs in New York, covering business-related stories, economic concerns, and the world’s financial markets.
Stewart led the Wall Street Journal’s popular morning podcast, “What’s News,” which examined the day’s events from a business perspective, before moving to CNN in 2022. Before that, he worked as a reporter for ABC News in New York, made frequent appearances on Yahoo Finance’s video streaming program, and wrote for the aviation-focused magazine “The Points Guy.”
Throughout his career, he has also reported from a number of Asia Pacific nations, including China, India, North and South Korea, and Singapore. The East West Center has also chosen him for international reporting fellowships. In American cities like Denver and Nashville, Stewart began his professional career as a news anchor and reporter.
