Throughout her life, she has understood that her true love was singing. Her first musical inspiration came from an opera singer aunt. Her parents were also theater buffs who frequently took the family to see Broadway productions. Lauren was inspired to perform at a young age and has frequently participated in local musical theater.
She established herself as a dynamic musical theater performer in musicals such as Is There Life After High School? (Broadway) and Company (Equity Library Theatre) before becoming a working actress, portraying leads on various daytime soap operas, including The Doctors and How to Survive a Marriage. She quickly established herself as a fixture on the New York music scene, performing standards and modern music in bars throughout the city.
Lauren continued acting in episodic television and theater after coming to Los Angeles, but quickly reverted to her first love, singing, and began playing in small Southern California venues. She is a co-producer on the hit Showtime series Homeland and lives in Pacific Palisades with her husband, television writer/producer and Homeland creator Alex Gansa.
