Katie Rich is an comedian, writer, producer, and actor of American nationality gained recognition for her work on Saturday Night Live.

Rich Husband

Rich wed Devlin Murdock in July 2015. Between New York City and Chicago, she splits her time as of September 2015 at the latest. After seeing Mike Gordon of Phish perform live at Second City, Rich got to know the band and has worked on several projects with them.

Saturday Night Live

Rich writes for Saturday Night Live. Following two unsuccessful auditions for Lorne Michaels, Rich was signed on as a Saturday Night Live writer in December 2013. Cecily Strong, an SNL cast member and Rich’s friend who served as her understudy at The Second City, also suggested her for the role. Rich is one of four writers that only contribute to the Weekend Update part of Saturday Night Live.

Following Donald Trump’s inauguration as president on January 20, 2017, Rich tweeted about Barron, Trump’s younger son, claiming that he “will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.” Rich’s name was removed from the Saturday Night Live closing credits and she was promptly suspended by NBC.

Rich removed the tweet and cancelled her account in response to harsh criticism. She later restored it on January 23 and apologized for her “insensitive” and “inexcusable” remarks. Trump referred to Rich as “terrible” in response to his post on January 26, 2017. On the other hand, a number of comedians supported Rich and condemned NBC for suspending her. Rich made a comeback to Saturday Night Live on August 10, 2017, when he was listed as a writer for the show’s offshoot, Weekend Update: Summer Edition. 2019 saw her depart the program after six years.

Rich Career

Rich got her start in show business as a member of the ensemble “Carl and the Passions” at Chicago’s iO Theater. Rich co-created The Mary Kay Letourneau Players Present, a sketch program, with fellow comedian Kate Duffy while she was employed at iO. Rich also participated in the show. After leaving iO, she joined the comedic group The Second City, touring for three and a half years before becoming a member of the mainstage cast. Rich appeared in a number of shows while a member of the mainstage cast, including South Side of Heaven.

Rich starred in three motion pictures: Bad Johnson (2014), Janie Jones (2010), and The Ice Harvest (2005). She has also provided a variety of voices for Showtime’s Our Cartoon President and made appearances in the Netflix series It’s Bruno. Additionally, Rich has contributed to other award shows, including the Emmys, NFL Honors, ESPYS, and Golden Globes. In addition, she serves as executive producer and co-creator of the animated Netflix series Chicago Party Aunt. She was a co-executive producer on Kite Man: Hell Yeah, the Harley Quinn spinoff. She is presently an executive producer for Harley Quinn’s fifth season.

Rich has made appearances in Walmart and Discover Card advertisements. She participated in the spontaneous Sonic Commercials as well. She is a copywriter who came up with the idea for the KFC ad “I Think I Ate The Bones.” She was nominated in 2015 for a Writers Guild of America Award for Comedy/Variety – Sketch Series along with her colleagues Saturday Night Live writers. In addition, she is a multiple Emmy nominee for her work on Saturday Night Live.
