Joe Madisn Career

Madison began his broadcasting career in 1980 at the Detroit radio station WXYZ-AM. In the early 1990s, he joined an otherwise white lineup at WWRC-AM and developed a crossover appeal dealing with issues that included race but were aimed at the station’s multiracial audience. He left the station in 1998, after it fired its talent and changed format, to start an online chat show. He also worked at WOL-AM and was a regular on the Radio One Talk Network and its XM satellite channel. In 2013, he left WOL.

He publicized allegations of CIA collusion in the importation of cocaine into the United States, sought evidence, and advocated for legislation to declassify potentially relevant documents. Madison, Dick Gregory, and John Newman went on hunger strike on October 15, 1996, to promote this legislation. He declared another hunger strike a quarter-century later, this time to advocate for voting rights legislation.
