Jessica McKenna is an actress, comedian, and singer from America well-known for her training at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and The Groundlings. Up until 2023, she presented the podcast Off Book: The Improvised Musical and was a star on Fox’s Party Over Here

McKenna Podcast
The musical comedy podcast Off Book: The Improvised Musical, which debuted on the Earwolf network, has been hosted by McKenna and Reino since 2017. She made an appearance on the children’s podcast Sound Detectives in 2023 as one of the key characters. Additionally, McKenna frequently appears as a guest on the podcast edition of Comedy Bang! Bang! She is well-known for her roles as This Is Your Boy Troy and Beth, the eight-year-old who is fascinated with Power Wheels. Additionally, McKenna has been on Doughboys, Hollywood Handbook, The JV Club, and Improv4Humans.
Jessica Star Trek
McKenna appears in Star Trek: Lower Decks as Barnes and the Cerritos Computer.Ensign Barnes was a 2380s-era unjoined female junior officer in the Trill Starfleet operations section. She was an operations officer on board the USS Cerritos, serving under Captain Carol Freeman.
Rutherford did not share Barnes’ interest in doing diagnostics on ship systems, but he was nonetheless described by Rutherford as brilliant, attractive, and very effective in a ship-wide crisis. She enjoyed playing squash and listening to music by The Monkees, a legendary rock group.

Following college, McKenna trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, where she eventually made her stage debut in 2012. She frequently plays with Magic to Do and Baby Wants Candy, two musical improv house teams. McKenna also frequently participates in the long-running improv show ASSSSCAT at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. At events like South by Southwest, SF Sketchfest, Edinburgh Fringe, the Del Close Marathon, Bumbershoot, and Chicago Sketch Fest, McKenna has showcased her improv comedic skills.
Before Riot was canceled in 2014, McKenna was a regular cast member of Fox’s improv-based game program. In 2016, McKenna costarred in Fox’s sketch comedy program Party Over Here, which was created by The Lonely Island and Paul Scheer, with fellow Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) alumni Nicole Byer and Alison Rich. After only one season, Party Over Here was canceled. McKenna has made appearances in episodes of The Goldbergs and Modern Family.
McKenna frequently works with Zach Reino, a UCB alumni. McKenna and Reino collaborated on musical sketches for Nickelodeon, BuzzFeed, and Funny or Die. McKenna and Reino co-wrote and co-starred in Serious Music, an ABC web series, in 2016. In 2021, the two collaborated on a “The Official Cast Recording” episode of the Dropout series Game Changer, wherein Zeke Nicholson and the other cast member spontaneously composed a little musical number in response to commands from host Sam Reich. The next year, Dropout turned this into a full-length series called Play It By Ear.
McKenna is a voice actress in addition. McKenna provides the voice of Lennon, the main character on Amazon’s Little Big Awesome. Originally, McKenna was supposed to voice Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer’s main character; however, creator Aaron Springer ended up taking on that role.
For her work on the television series Baking It, McKenna, Neil Casey, Zach Reino, and Niccole Thurman were awarded the Writers Guild of America Award in the area of “Quiz and Audience Participation” in 2022. She and the other Baking It writers were nominated for the same prize again in 2023.
