Despite his easygoing demeanor, Jay was a formidable opponent throughout his season, uncovering a Hidden Immunity Idol, winning two Immunity Challenges, and masterminding Michaela Bradshaw’s blindside. His membership in the Triforce coalition and his strength in battle made him a target during the merging. Due in part to a special affinity and rivalry with Adam Klein, he was able to outlast the other members of his alliance. However, he was eliminated on Day 36 after playing a David Wright-made phony idol by mistake.
Along with Taylor Stocker and Figgy Figueroa, Jay, a Triforce alliance member, founded the Millennial tribe Vanua. Jay warned Michelle Schubert to target Mari Takahashi after Vanua lost immunity on Day 7, but Michaela Bradshaw caught her off guard. With the addition of Sunday Burquest and former Takalis Bret LaBelle, Jay, Hannah, Michaela, and Will were subsequently transferred to the new Ikabula tribe.Together, Jay and Will discovered the Hidden Immunity Idol, but Michaela caught them and vowed not to tell anyone.
Despite her brilliance, athleticism, and familiarity with the idol, Michaela was taken by surprise by Jay, Will, Bret, and Sunday.Jay lost the following Reward Challenge, despite the minority alliance’s efforts to find new partners. Adam Klein mocked Jay for belonging to the minority alliance when Jay’s alliance attempted to speak with him.
Sunday and Bret talked about going after Jessica Lewis, but Jay persuaded him to do so by promising Taylor and Will, two members of his alliance. Jay was alerted to Adam’s Reward Steal advantage and his pilfered food supply, and Ken McNickle was granted immunity. Despite their best efforts to turn the tables on Adam, Jay ultimately chose to vote for Taylor rather than his idol.
Will informed Zeke about Jay’s idol the following day, and word got out to the rest of the group. Jay chose to vote for Jessica instead of playing his idol after David Wright was granted immunity. Jay won his first individual Immunity Challenge on Day 30 with ease, joining Zeke’s Vinaka Alliance in the process. The vote ended in a 4-4 tie, but he cast his vote for Hannah.
Jay won his second Immunity Challenge, but Will caught him off guard. Jay and Will attempted to support Adam after trying to mobilize people against David, but Adam was still determined to destroy Jay. After Ken was granted immunity, Jay went after David and declared his desire to accompany him to the end. Jay performed his Hidden Immunity Idol and cast his vote for David at Tribal Council, but he only got one vote. Adam won by a unanimous score of 10-0-0 at the Final Tribal Council after Jay questioned him about why he didn’t trust him to see it through to the end.
