Sandoval Masterchef and Restaurant
Sandoval competed in the sixth season of MasterChef. As the season’s winner, she received a $250,000 salary, a cookbook deal, and the MasterChef trophy. She judges MasterChef Latino as well.
From the start of the competition, Claudia was evidently a devoted cook and frequently shared her extraordinary knowledge of Mexican food. She cooked dishes (mainly authentic Mexican) that pleased the judges and eliminated competitors, finally winning the season despite a few blunders, like a subpar chicken and waffles dish and an ugly party plate made with Hetal. She got along well with most of the others in the kitchen, especially Nick, with whom she formed a close bond. However, she was shown to have a temporary animosity for Shelly because Shelly was a powerful cook and left her in the steak pressure test.
The first head-to-head match of the season featured Andrew, a single mother from South Carolina, and Claudia, an events manager from La Mesa, California. Claudia made head-on shrimp in a garlic butter sauce, called camarones barbones al mojo de ajo, served with white Mexican rice and grape pico. While Christina thought the flavor combination was fascinating, she believed that the presentation could have been better.
Gordon, on the other hand, loved the salsa and the perfectly cooked shrimp. Graham recommended seasoning the grape pico with salt to enhance its savory taste. Christina said the rice didn’t really improve the shrimp, but she still enjoyed it. Gordon selected Claudia, who made a flawless shrimp. Andrew was supposed to receive the apron from Graham, but Claudia had to remain longer, so she received it instead. Claudia sobbed as she gave her kid a hug and said that, for her, fairytales are not typically realized.
Claudia did not make the Top 3 and was not given much of a chance to be seen during the Ingredients from Home Mystery Box. She was spared from competing in the Apple Pie Elimination Challenge because she was one of the 12 participants who received an apple later on from Dan. Claudia, a competitor on the Flambé Mystery Box Challenge, did not receive many calls to the Top 3 and was not seen much during the competition. Claudia prepared buttermilk-fried chicken legs with cayenne and lemon-thyme waffles for the Chicken and Waffles Elimination Challenge. Ramsay made a comment about her food, saying it tasted like a diner and was awful.
Shelly and Claudia were brought down to the Bottom 2, where Claudia wishes she had more time to add garnishes. The judges were somewhat aback to see her down there, but Ramsay assured her that she had the potential to be a formidable chef. In spite of this, the judges thought Shelly could not go any more, therefore Claudia was safe.
Ramsay loved the taste and look of Claudia’s dish, but he thought the waffles were tacky and felt like his grandfather’s mattress. Claudia attended the wedding of Nick Nappi, a competitor in Season 6, as a guest. Claudia appeared with Aaron Sanchez to work alongside the competitors with her Mexican Mystery Box and to promote her new cookbook.
