Lee worked with Google for a decade in the 2000s. His company work included writing code for ChromeOS. Lee became interested in Bitcoin in 2011. He launched Litecoin on Bitcointalk in October 2011. While working at Google, he created the blockchain technology based on Bitcoin in his leisure time. He made Litecoin available to the public after just mining 150 coins. Lee explained that Litecoin was not intended to compete with Bitcoin, but rather to be used for smaller transactions.
