Carlos McCullers Psych
On the hit USA Network television show Psych, he played Gus (from “American Duos” until “The Amazing Psych-Man & Tap-Man, Issue 2”). Burton “Gus” Guster (born December 1977) is the deuteragonist of Psych and the best friend and crime-solving partner of the protagonistic psychic detective Shawn Spencer. Dulé Hill is playing him. In flashbacks, he is played by Julien Hill (S1E2 “Spellingg Bee”), Isaah Brown (Season 1), and Carlos McCullers II (Seasons 2-6). Dalpre Grayer also appears as a teen Gus in the spin-off series Psych: Flashback to the Teen Years.
Since they were children, Gus has accompanied his best friend Shawn Spencer on his rash exploits. It gets him in a lot of trouble, which may be why he keeps trying to convince himself that the straight and narrow–a career as a pharmaceutical sales rep with a 401(k) and a regular salary of $48,000–is where he belongs. He is, after all, a “sympathetic crier” who prefers softer pursuits and dislikes blood, heights, planes, corpses, or jumpsuits. In addition, he has two left knees. So participating in psychic investigations isn’t his idea of fun… and it puts him closer to realizing his dread that Gus’s story would end in a tragic, erroneous conviction, and he likes to go bowling.
Still, the notion of working as a private investigator appeals to him, and while he is perplexed by Shawn’s behavior most of the time, he understands that the excitement and adventure of their investigative venture may just make it all worthwhile. After all, he does bring a lot to the table: 1) the Blueberry, 2) the Super Sniffer, and 3) a good attitude at work. He may also rely on Navy Scout skills and an encyclopedic knowledge of drugs. In most episodes, he provides Shawn with the background information he needs to solve the case. It also helps because Gus is 1/16th robot.
