Beth Moore Biography
Beth Moore is an Anglican evangelist, author, and Bible teacher from the United States. In 1994, she created Living Proof Ministries with the goal of teaching women to know and love Jesus through Scripture. Moore is known as “arguably the most prominent white evangelical woman in America,” and she has sold millions of books. The headquarters of Living Proof Ministries are in Houston, Texas.
She got a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Texas State University, where she pledged and was initiated into Chi Omega.

Both girls, along with son-in-law Curtis Jones, work at Living Proof Ministries with their mother. Moore and her spouse are members of the Spring Anglican Church.

Moore grew up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where her father operated a movie theater. She is the fourth of five children, all of whom worked at the theater from an early age. Moore grew up in the Southern Baptist Church, going three times a week. Moore’s childhood church was a safe haven for her, where she could escape the sexual assault she suffered at home.

She attended a biblical doctrine class, which instilled in her a strong desire to know the Bible, and she began teaching a weekly Bible study class. By the mid-1990s, the class had grown to 2,000 women, and she was giving talks in churches across South Texas. Despite her lack of formal theology education, LifeWay Christian Resources’ publishing arm Broadman & Holman (later B&H) began publishing her Bible studies in 1994, resulting in Moore’s national speaking career. She began holding weekend conferences across the country with the help of a worship band she put together. She established Living Proof Ministries as a home base for her national-speaking ministry.

In 2008, she staged a simulcast of her “Living Proof Live” that was watched by 70,000 people in 715 different locations. The sales of her book about Esther were acknowledged as part of Lifeway Christian Stores’ “strong” quarter during the Great Recession.
Beth Moore Controversy
Moore has stated that she was a victim of sexual abuse as a youngster in her own household. She became an advocate for sexual abuse survivors after the #MeToo movement and an article in her local newspaper detailing 700 cases of sexual assault within the Southern Baptist Convention, sharing her story, listening to other survivors, and pressing the church to investigate crimes and coverups. She chastised male church leaders for objectifying women and rejecting allegations of sexual assault.

Moore then backed the Southern Baptist Convention’s complementarian ideology, which maintains that men and women have complementary responsibilities and forbids women from becoming pastors. Male SBC church leaders chastised her for constantly speaking on Sundays, which contradicted their view of the Bible’s position on the role of women in teaching.
Moore’s embrace of an egalitarian theological perspective caused her to leave the Southern Baptist Convention, which follows a complementarian approach. Moore said in March 2021 that, while she was still a Baptist, she was no longer a Southern Baptist and had dissolved her publishing connection with LifeWay Christian.
Moore was afterwards said to have joined the Anglican Church in North America. Some Baptist preachers were outraged after hearing the story and seeing images of Moore dressed as an acolyte and lector during an Anglican Eucharistic service. In response, Bishop Clark Lowenfield of the Anglican Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast tweeted, “It is an honor to serve God as Beth Moore’s spiritual oversight and covering as her Bishop.” She is gracious and humble. And we pray for those who have treated her in an unChristian manner during the last week.”
