Skelton was announced as a Blue Peter presenter on August 28, 2008, replacing Zöe Salmon and becoming the show’s 33rd host. Skelton had an uncredited role in the BBC production of Merlin as a challenge for the series.
She announced her retirement from the show in August 2013 and was replaced by Radzi Chinyanganya. During her time on Blue Peter, Skelton worked on a variety of different projects, most of which were correspondent-based, such as reporting from the Wimbledon Championships. Since 2008, she has occasionally presented bits of Countryfile, and in 2013/14, she co-hosted two series of Holiday Hit Squad with Angela Rippon and Joe Crowley. She hosted the BBC’s London Marathon Highlights show in 2014/15. In 2016, she was succeeded by Ore Oduba.

Skelton performed the Charleston with professional partner Gorka Marquez on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ to the Blue Peter theme music on Saturday, October 22nd, as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations. On Saturday 5 November, Skelton shared the top leader position on week 7 of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with her Jive. She breezed through week 8, dancing the Salsa on the 12 November competition evening, to advance to Blackpool’s prestigious Extravaganza on November 19, 2022.
